Making a start

I probably know lots of the excuses in the book of Why I Haven’t Got Things Done.

I’m a working mum with two teenagers, two hourly paid teaching jobs in different places (with a supply job during the holidays in yet another direction), preparation and marking for 20 individual students and two very different adult classes, a small MLM home business, an elderly relative living nearby … etc etc.

I know that I am not the only one in this situation, but sometimes – oh it is so difficult to find the time or motivation to get going and just do something!

Although I knew what the answer would be when I asked the question “what can I do when I am so busy?”, Alex Jeffreys’ reply was “work smart for an hour each day”.

I suppose that I didn’t want to hear it, but I realised that I knew this was true and now is the time to act on it. So I’ve set my timer for an hour, closed the door and am concentrating on the matter in hand.

So after restarting this blog yesterday I took out a copy of Gary Simpson’s Time in Motion Action Planner and began filling in the details for yesterday.

Gary is another of the students from Alex Jeffreys’ first coaching course and always gives so much great value. He is working on other things at the moment, but if you go over to his blog and scroll about half way down the page, you will find a place to download this Action Planner. I would highly recommend it as Tool #1 in overcoming the excuse making.

But you have to use it!

I am and I’ll let you know how it helps me. Please tell me what you need to help you move forward too – I would love to hear.

    Hi Hilary,

I see you’ve had a break, but now you’re refreshed and ready to go.

Like you, I had a long break (two years) between faffing around the edges, and making a fresh start. Nice to find another Brit marketer.
In case you wondered where I came from, I saw you actively playing in the Warrior Forum, so thought I’d stop by.

    Best of luck.

Why not pay me a visit too, ignore the Warrior Forum stuff, coz you already know. But you may find something useful there anyway.

    Cheers
    Alan

    Hi Alan

Thanks for visiting – it’s always good to get to know new people (and other Brits) and I hope to get to know you in time.

Just got going on the Warrior Forum so that I can meet new people there too, but I’m very good at making my own decisions and using a great big pinch of salt!

I have plenty to do ahead of me but refreshed and ready after my break from here (though I was doing other things in the meantime so I know how it feels) and I’d love company on the road. Thanks.

    Hi Hilary,

Great to see that you have been inspired by Alex to get back up and running again and well done for managing to find time amongst your busy schedule. It was wonderful to meet you in person at the seminar event and I look forward to following and hearing more about your progress and journey towards online success.

Keep up the great work and momentum going!!!

    Best wishes
    Nigel

    Hey Hilary,

You can do it. There is 24 hours in a day 8 hours to sleep so 16 hours to do all your other duties and find 1 hour to work on your business.

It is possible and I know you are going to do it 🙂

    @Nigel

Thanks for your kind words. It is good to meet people face to face, especially when you have got to know one another online and that was a really great part of the weekend. It was also a great opportunity to meet lots of new people and I know that there were many people I met with whom I can interact.

I am on a maths course this weekend, so haven’t got quite the same opportunity to post and work on my business – but plenty of the mental stuff going on in the meantime.

    @Jouvan

Thanks – as you know it has been very difficult for me to be consistent in finding that hour (took me over an hour to get an internet connection this evening), but by being firm with myself (cutting out TV etc) and the accountability from others I know that I can achieve many things.

    Hi Hilary

If only there were more than 24 hours in a day.

It is surprising what you can do with an hour a day if you put it to good use and work on the things that will help you move forward.

Get rid of all your distractions and make that hour count and you’ll soon get where you want to be.

    Take care

    Hi Dawn

Thanks for your comment. Yes we could so often do with more than 24 hours in one day, but we don’t so I am determined to make my hour count.

I believe though that you have to have the right mental attitude to this in order to make it work. It’s something I intend to post more about soon.
