Making your life a masterpiece (or follow your passion).

I’ve been rather quiet here of late apart from the occasional comment on a few blogs. I wonder if I have been missed?!

During the past month I have spent a great deal of time reading everything from classic books such as ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill to lots of information on other websites about financial literacy for young people and courses for writing all kinds of things from novels to ebooks, newsletters to short articles.

As you may know, these areas are where my real passions lie and I feel that I need to feed these areas as much as possible. However along with the two week break from school for Easter, which has meant that my usual schedule is disrupted, my research has kept me quiet here.

Is it possible for us to do too much research?

Well it can be if we don’t then get on and do something with the information that we have gained. After all as Alex Jeffreys said at the beginning of the course ‘You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going’.

I first came across this saying from Mike Litman, who is a very motivational writer, speaker and coach with his own inimitable style. He is currently doing a series of motivational videos on his blog and if you have not seen them yet then I suggest that you have a look at one of them here.

Mike says this in his video “Too many people follow money and not their divine assignment and they get screwed up in life” – does this ring true with you? I certainly does with me. I’m listening to him again as I write and it is well worth while listening to more than once!

“You know that there is something great about your life”.

“Chase the greatest you and give yourself the chance”.

We need not only to plant the seed and hope to reap the harvest, but also to cultivate in between these events and this is what I have been doing. “Don’t judge yourself on results, judge yourself on activity – make your life a masterpiece.”

Wow, that is such an inspiration to me. It has taken me a while to really move forward on this and I have felt frustrated and overwhelmed at times this week, but I hope that as you listen you too find the inspiration to do what is right in your life. Like Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent, what is your dream?

Take that step and follow it. Leave me a comment about your dreams. We can achieve them, if only we cultivate them.

Hilary

P.S. I planned to write much more in this post, but I feel that this is so relevant now that I will add further posts with other ideas later.

Please let me know where your motivation lies in Making Your Life a Masterpiece

    Hi Hilary,
It seems that this post has my position written all over it. I was off on a tangent, chasing the money and trying every way to make money under the kitchen sink to do it online. Obviously this has gotten me nowhere and it even stopped the momentum that I was building on my blog.
But, I’m back now and fully focused on what I need to do.
I will be back to your blog frequently to check you latest post and to see the continuation of this one. Hope to see you over at my blog soon.

    Hi Anthony

Thanks for your comment. I suspect that there are many people who feel like you and me. We have our dreams of making money and chase anything to do that.

Yet if we follow our passions it will lead us into fulfilment in many ways that are not necessarily monetary.

Unfortunately we need to have some income and that can sometimes be a higher driving force than our passion, for a while. Yet if it is a true passion we will come back to it.

I am so pleased to see that you have come back to focussing on your blog. I will pop over there soon.

I have been reading and listening to other great things this week, so another new post is due.

    Hi Hillary,

I really like the quote you mentioned about not judging yourself on results, but judging yourself on activity.
That is so true since we tend to postpone or put off tasks because of our fear of the outcome, but like the saying goes we need to get the bloody thing going first and then learn from our mistakes.

And yes its great to see that there are people out there who can make their dreams come true even if the wait is that little bit over due like in the case of Susan Boyle. But damn, was it worth the wait.

I have many dreams, goals, ambitions to mention here but the one that sticks to mind is wanting to help those that are less fortunate and disadvantaged in life and making them a success.
    so watch this space 😉

    regards

    Hi Guy

Thanks for your comment. I know that I have been guilty of not getting on with things in my online journey recently. Sometimes I feel absolutely overwhelmed by everything and at other times I can see clearly what I want to do.

I think that tiredness often clouds the issue and as May is the busiest time for me as a teacher with all the tests I have to run and mark, I suspect that something will have to take a back seat until the end of the month.

I think that there can be no higher motivation that wanting to help those who are less fortunate than we are and I really look forward to seeing how things develop for you. Do keep me posted!

    Hey Hilary,

I am one of your fellow AJ’s students. I’m glad I finally made it over to your blog. As you know there are 500 of us and it’s taking me awhile to reach everyone’s blog. I’ll try not to be a stranger.

I too have felt overwhelmed at times but you just have to keep on pushing ahead. Trust me, you are not the only one that feels this way.

This journey with Alex Jeffreys has been like a roller coaster ride with peaks and valleys. I’ll be moving along quite nicely and next thing you know I’m at the bottom of the hill and very frustrated. But then I remind myself why I’m here and start chugging away again and slowly but surely I find myself at the top of the hill again.

Each time I reach the top things seam to get easier and now I’m spending less effort to stay at the top. Mind you, I’m not saying it’s getting easy but it definitely is getting less difficult.

    Hi Hilary,

Long time no word from me. Great post, as always. Yes, you can do too much research and meanwhile the other things have slipped by.
However, we make our own decisions and live with the consequences. It’s a question of the art of a good life is in getting a good balance, I believe – and one that I, certainly, seem to fail dismally by some yardsticks. However, by my own yardstick, it’s good.

Take internet marketing for instance. Yes,
it’s all well and good to follow your passion, but without the research and knowledge to engage the internet community you may well be all fired up and have a brilliant blog, but no one will know it exists, just for starters.
I could go on, you know most of the rest, and I expect you agree with me.

So I’ll go, wishing you all the very best as always.
