Twitter and Twhirl

I have learnt so much in these past few weeks that I can hardly believe it and yet I know that there is so much more to learn.

I’ve been spending a litle bit of time getting to know Twitter and I found this useful description of it in one of Mike Filsaime’s emails which has helped me to understand it better and may give you some help too:

“Why is Twitter one of the most revolutionary communications tools?

Well, imagine if you combined the following:

– Blogging (Twitter is actually Micro Blogging)
– SMS text messaging
– Instant Messaging
– Chat Rooms
– Communities Forums and Social Networks
– Personal Email
– Email Broadcasting
– Search
– Viral Marketing

What would you have?

You would have the most addicting, most powerful, and most incredible communication tool ever made.”

Like Alex, Mike recommends that we get on and use it so I have been getting going with it – please follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/HilaryDickinson and I will follow you back.  This is another great way to build our community and link with so many other people too.  Who knows where these roads will lead?

Mike also recommended Twhirl:

“I also HIGHLY recommend you install “Twhirl” (Google it)

Twhirl allows you to use Twitter more effectively, sort of like a an Instant Messenger Client like Yahoo Instant Messenger or AIM etc…”

I’ve just done that so now I need to use it and get to understand its features.  Mike also has other sugestions if you check out his tweets today on Twitter.  I need to go and follow those suggestions as soon as I can.

So much I want to do – I really must plan it all in to make sure that I don’t miss anything out.

I’m also now making a note of whose blogs I visit and where I leave comments so that I can go back and check if there has been a reply to any questions I leave – I was having difficulty remembering which blogs I had been to .  It is also a useful way of keeping track of where there have been good ideas and suggestions to follow up.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to the future and here’s wishing us all an exciting and productive 2009.

    Hi Hilary,

thanks for dropping by my blog the other day, haven’t quite yet added the plug-ins yet, but will do tomorrow :). .

By the way .. I visited your site at wordpress, and the link you posted to go to this blog site was incorrect, I had to delete the full stop you put in the link between your first and last name :). . so I would try and fix that asap, otherwise you could lose some traffic 🙂

    All the best!

ps: good idea about keeping track of who you visit, I’ve just done printed out my list and making notes as I visit everyones blogs 🙂

    Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your kind words on my current post on my blog :). . . much appreciated :). . by the way did you know you an actually edit comments? so if you don’t like a part of a comment, or there is an obvious mistake you can actually fix it :). .

there is a row of actions you cant take – Approve, Disapprove, Edit, delete etc. . just click on the edit, and you can actually change the content of the comment.

    thanks again!

    Hi Derrick

I did think about that and tried to do it by I don’t appear to have an edit button – I only have (un)approve, Mark as Spam and delete.

I’ve also just read the reply to the black, white and grey hat post on Gary Simpson’s blog from Paula Brett:

“1. It is not considered good form to comment on peoples blogs and leave your url after your name. Many bloggers (in the big wide world beyond the coaching group) will not accept your comments and consider them to be spammy if you do this.

There is no need to do this anyway, as you get the opportunity to leave your url in the form when commenting on a blog in most cases.

If someone is interested enough in your comment and you, they will simply click on your name and be taken to your blog.”

So from now on I’ll leave that off and just go with the name at the top of the comment.

    Hi Hilary,

I’m very impressed with your blog and the quality of your content.

I’ve a post on my blog you may find useful on a piece of voice recognition software that will speed up creating any text related activites. It make things alot easier and quicker to produce.

    http://www.davepumfrey.com/category/increase-productivity/

I’m also notifying members of the group who may be unware, that their list of Alex Jeffreys students blogroll may result in them being dropped from from ranking in Google.

I’m written a post that explains what you need to do avoid this happening to you and still keep the blogroll.

I would appreciate you circulating this link to the other members of our group during any of your oil-rig hopping, so we are all protected, yet can still provide links to our network.

Please add me to your blogroll – I’ve already added you to mine!

I wish you Health, Happiness and Prosperity for 2009!

    To our success,

    Dave

    Hi Hilary,

I’ve been meaning to pop over for a while, as I was hopping with ants in my pants and found your blog a couple of days ago. And Hey Presto Girl, we’re in the same club. Girls of a certain age with exceedingly good taste. We use the same WordPress theme.

I toyed with the idea of changing mine, but then I said to myself that we both chose this one, out of all the choices available, because we like it, and it does what we want it to, and looks like we want our blog to look. So, Hilary, I hope you take the same approach and we both agree.

You’ll see I’ve also called mine Planet Valz, so come on over some time and have a look at my world. You’re very welcome.

And now to the reason I’ve plonked in here, now:

It’s taking me for ever to get round everyone just to say hi, so I don’t want you to think I am being rude, but I’m turbo hopping to get round as many of the F500 that I can. If I wait for you to come to me, it might never happen. Thanks to all who have already visited Planet Valz.

This means I have a standard message for everyone, and I’m leaving it as a comment to the latest post. I hope this does not offend you as communication and generosity is what is driving this.

Firstly, my wishes to you for a Happy, Healthy and very Prosperous Year 2009.

Secondly, I want to give you a New Year present, but you need to go to http://daybydaymarketing.com/2008/12/choose-your-new-year-present/

I would appreciate being added to your blogroll. I am happy to add you to mine when you come over.

    Hi Hils,

Just a real quickie for the moment. I am so sorry you weren’t on my blogeroo. You have been so wonderfully verbose over at Gary-land. I do appreciate it.

I have just this moment put you up there. I wanted you to know that.

I like the Brian Dennehy “Cocoon” style header too. There are a few of these around and they always remind me of that wonderful movie.

    Hi Dave

Thanks for your comment. I will get over to have a look at the voice recognition software. I’m still moving slowly through all this new information, so I may take a while to get to it, but I’ll make a note of it in my resources spreadsheet.

Val – I’m quite happy for you to keep the same theme – great minds think alike! I have left you a longer reply on your blog.

I’m still getting to grips with Twitter – lots of other things have been keeping me busy of late, but it is definitely something I want to persue. I will check out your blog and add you to my blogroll tomorrow – I see you also have a Squidoo lens. That’s also on my to do list…

Good to see you here – your ebook helped me to get this site up and running in the first place so thanks for that. Now I need to fill it with great content – with help from everyone else of course.

    Hilary,

I saw your post over at Gary’s blog about being ovrwhelmed. I think as a “newbie” there is just so much we feel that we must learn in a short period of time. At least that is how I feel. I see others who seem to be making progress ny leaps and bounds while i seem to be moving at a snails pace. I constantly have to keep reminding myself that if I keep applying the princilpes we are learning, success will come You are not alone in your feelings!!

    Hi Ken

    Thank you for your support.

I know that there are several of us on this journey who can sometimes feel overwhelmed – even the more experienced can feel that too.

I have long since stopped worrying about others being too far ahead of me because they either started before me or have more time to work on their journey.

What I do want to do though is to make sure that those who are further ahead don’t lose sight of the fact that although we may be further behind, we are still working on what we are doing and that we want to fly too!

It is good though to be able to support one another in this. Thanks!

I have been and left you a long comment – I totally agree with all you have said.

We just need to support one another, whatever stage we are on the journey.
